HLTAAP002 Confirm physical health status

Core unit of HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. Release 1.

This is the course’s main anatomy and physiology unit. You learn how the body’s systems work, what common disorders look like, and how to recognise when a client’s health is outside normal and needs referral.

What you must do (performance evidence)

  • Obtain, interpret and use anatomy and physiology information to check the physical health status of at least 3 different people with different conditions.

What you must know (knowledge evidence)

  • Levels of body organisation, life processes and homeostasis (and how imbalance leads to disease).
  • Structure and function of every body system: cells and tissues, cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, endocrine, digestive, urinary, reproductive, integumentary (skin), lymphatic, nervous, immune and the special senses.
  • Anatomical and medical terminology.
  • Common disorders of each system and their signs and symptoms.
  • Basic pharmacology as it relates to cautions and contraindications.
  • Causes of disease (pathogens, genetics, trauma, nutrition, ageing, cancer) and cellular adaptation.
  • Metabolism, nutrition, temperature regulation, maturation and ageing.
  • When variations from normal need referral to a medical or allied health professional.

How it is assessed

Workplace or simulation using real people’s health information.
