Pain gate

A theory that non-painful input, such as touch and pressure, can reduce the transmission of pain signals in the spinal cord.

Alsogate control theory

It is often used to explain why rubbing a bumped elbow eases the pain, and is one proposed reason clients report less pain during massage. It is a model, not a proven explanation for all pain.
