What you must do (performance evidence)

• Find and summarise 3 credible sources about massage: one Commonwealth Government, one State or Territory Government, and one piece of primary scientific research.
• Explain key messages about massage to at least 3 different audiences, each using a different communication method.
• Identify and evaluate strategies for your own personal health, sustainable practice and career longevity.

What you must know (knowledge evidence)

• History of massage and the structure of the Australian health care system.
• Types of massage and the difference between relaxation and remedial massage.
• Complementary therapies and allied health services and how they relate to massage.
• Types of clients and how to communicate with them (in person, phone, email, social media, online).
• Professional associations, models of practice and career options.
• Sustainable practice: economic, environmental, personal health and social responsibility.
• Legal and ethical requirements: codes of conduct, duty of care, informed consent, insurance, mandatory reporting, boundaries, privacy, records, WHS.

How it is assessed

Simulated workplace; assessors must be practising remedial massage therapists, myotherapists or soft tissue therapists with current professional membership.
