Core unit of HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. Release 2.

This unit covers WHS from the point of view of someone responsible for a workplace, such as a clinic owner: assessing risks, consulting workers, monitoring compliance and planning for emergencies.

What you must do (performance evidence)

• Conduct and record a workplace risk assessment: identify hazards, assess risk, review policy against legislation and develop controls.
• Run consultation activities with at least 2 workers, including a policy information session (with a PPE demonstration where relevant) and a discussion of risk assessment outcomes.
• Monitor workplace compliance with WHS procedures.
• Develop a WHS action plan with monitoring and review.
• Coordinate workplace procedures for a simulated emergency.

What you must know (knowledge evidence)

• State/territory WHS legislation, regulators, and duties of PCBUs, officers and workers (including duty of care and due diligence).
• Record-keeping, reporting and consultation requirements.
• Hazardous manual tasks and infection control.
• Common workplace hazards and how to minimise them.
• What WHS policies must cover: incident reporting, risk control, PPE, emergency procedures, investigation.
• Risk management principles and the hierarchy of control.

How it is assessed

In the workplace, with simulations for emergencies or rare situations.
