This elective covers reflexology for relaxation only (not therapeutic reflexology), either as a stand-alone session or alongside massage.

What you must do (performance evidence)
- Provide relaxation reflexology to at least 4 different people, choosing techniques from an assessment of the feet, responding to skin and structural abnormalities, and staying within thumb-and-finger reflexology scope.
What you must know (knowledge evidence)
- Principles and history of reflexology and zone therapy; reflex maps of hands and feet.
- Legal and ethical duties, including scope of practice and referral.
- Session protocols: environment, equipment, privacy, rituals.
- Foot observation: infection signs, skin changes, swelling, structural abnormalities.
- Relaxation techniques (diaphragm relaxer, spinal twist, toe rotation, metatarsal kneading, ankle loosening) and working techniques (thumb/finger walking, microrotation, hook in and back up).
- Pressure, leverage, holding and support.
- Basic structure and function of the body systems and their reflex areas.
How it is assessed
Workplace or simulated environment modelling services to the general public, with seating, lotion, draping and cleaning equipment.
