Core unit of HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. Release 1.

This unit covers infection control from a manager’s point of view: setting up the hygiene, PPE, cleaning and risk procedures a clinic needs, and checking they work.

What you must do (performance evidence)

• Develop compliant infection prevention and control procedures for at least 1 work environment, covering hazard identification, personal hygiene, PPE, handling potentially infectious material, limiting contamination, and cleaning.
• Communicate responsibilities to the people involved.
• Monitor the procedures in at least 1 work environment and respond to problems.

What you must know (knowledge evidence)

• Infection control regulations, Australian standards, government guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
• Planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and training requirements.
• How infection control links to WHS and staff management.
• How infections spread in your specific workplace, the hazards and the control methods.
• Sustainability considerations in infection control.

How it is assessed

In the workplace, plus simulations for situations that rarely occur.
