Core unit of HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. Release 1.

This is a management-level unit about compliance: finding out which laws and ethical codes apply to your practice, turning them into written policies and procedures, and checking they are followed. For a massage therapist this is the foundation for running your own clinic.

What you must do (performance evidence)

• Work out the legal and ethical requirements for at least 1 workplace or business and write policies and procedures for it.
• Plan a response to at least 3 different situations where legal or ethical rules have been breached.

What you must know (knowledge evidence)

• Legal responsibilities and liabilities of managers and practitioners.
• Key frameworks: duty of care, informed consent, privacy and confidentiality, mandatory reporting, codes of conduct, complaints, discrimination, records management, practitioner-client boundaries, WHS.
• Business requirements such as licences, insurance (public liability, workers compensation), accreditation and statutory reporting.
• Where to get compliance advice (government regulators, industry associations).
• How to write policies and procedures and how to monitor compliance.

How it is assessed

Workplace or simulated organisation, using current legislation and workplace policies.
